Do NOT be Fooled!

Today’s message from the Word of God is a message of warning from Paul to the church in Corinth that should be considered prayerfully. Not all churches are being taught God’s Word or to follow God. Not all churches are being led by God’s children and if we are not in the Word of God we may not be able to recognize it. Satan is on the prowl everywhere and we must put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) and be alert to the battle that is before us. If we do not we will be led astray because he is crafty and cunning and his message is a fanciful message of peace and love.

God is love…BUT…He also has a righteous anger for those who go against Him and His people. God is peace for the believer but he is fury for those who attack Him. We must constantly be alert of attacks and schemes of the enemy in our own lives and in the lives of those whom we trust and follow. Just because we are Christians or just because people claim to be Christians does not mean that we are not open to attack and we can be led astray if we are not careful. Here is Paul’s warning to the Corinthians…

2 Corinthians 11:1-15 New Living Translation

I hope you will put up with a little more of my foolishness. Please bear with me. 2 For I am jealous for you with the jealousy of God himself. I promised you as a pure bride to one husband—Christ. 3 But I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be corrupted, just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent. 4 You happily put up with whatever anyone tells you, even if they preach a different Jesus than the one we preach, or a different kind of Spirit than the one you received, or a different kind of gospel than the one you believed.

5 But I don’t consider myself inferior in any way to these “super apostles” who teach such things. 6 I may be unskilled as a speaker, but I’m not lacking in knowledge. We have made this clear to you in every possible way.

7 Was I wrong when I humbled myself and honored you by preaching God’s Good News to you without expecting anything in return? 8 I “robbed” other churches by accepting their contributions so I could serve you at no cost. 9 And when I was with you and didn’t have enough to live on, I did not become a financial burden to anyone. For the brothers who came from Macedonia brought me all that I needed. I have never been a burden to you, and I never will be. 10 As surely as the truth of Christ is in me, no one in all of Greece will ever stop me from boasting about this. 11 Why? Because I don’t love you? God knows that I do.

12 But I will continue doing what I have always done. This will undercut those who are looking for an opportunity to boast that their work is just like ours.13 These people are false apostles. They are deceitful workers who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ. 14 But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is no wonder that his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. In the end they will get the punishment their wicked deeds deserve.

We live in a world where Satan is still allowed to roam and try to assert his control over us, but by the blood of Jesus Christ we have been freed from the power of sin that leads to death (Romans 8:2). Through God’s Word we receive understanding about the ways of Satan and because Christ has already defeated Satan we do not have to be overcome by the temptations of this world and that we can overcome evil by doing good (Romans 12:21).

When we accepted Jesus Christ as both Lord and Savior of our lives we received the Holy Spirit and the mighty power of God, but we must learn to embrace and understand that power in order to effectively fight Satan and his followers. We must learn to see what the Father is doing, we must adopt His heart for others, His eye for evil, and His Spirit of truth and righteousness.

2 Peter 3:17-18
17 You already know these things, dear friends. So be on guard; then you will not be carried away by the errors of these wicked people and lose your own secure footing. 18 Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen.

May God bless you as you learn His Word and understand the power that you have been given over the darkness that roams the world. May you be a blessing to others through that power as you open your eyes, and your heart, and your Spirit to all that the Father is doing around you and through you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Numbers 6:24-26
24 ‘May the Lord bless you
and protect you.
25 May the Lord smile on you
and be gracious to you.
26 May the Lord show you his favor
and give you his peace.’

Spiritual Milk

1 Peter 2:1-3

So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation-if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good

“Like newborn infants long for the pure spiritual milk…” For those of you that have ever seen a baby, especially a newborn you know how much they long for milk, they crave it, they need it. They know exactly where to get what they need because their mother has always been the source of their sustenance. Likewise, we are to crave the pure spiritual milk of our Father who is the only one who can give us the sustenance that we need.

Like newborn babies there is only one place that we can receive what we truly need and we crave it. We receive the power of the Holy Spirit in fullness when we are baptized into Christ and as we press into Him we are fed and long for more of the goodness that we have received. However, just as babies grow up and learn to eat solid food we, as Christians, must also grow. Hebrews 5:13-14 says that “anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”

Have you grown in your righteousness? Have you trained yourselves to distinguish the difference between good and evil? We all get pulled in different directions throughout the day and sometimes it can be difficult to differentiate the difference between what is good for us and what is not because anything that God has created for good the enemy has created something that represents a false goodness in an attempt to lure us from the Father. So crave the pure spiritual milk and learn to stand in righteousness as you learn to eat solid food. Grow in your faith and stand strong in the Lord. The battle is all around us and we must fight for ourselves and for one another in faith. We must stand together in righteousness and fill in the gaps when others fall so that they may be guarded from the attack and be able to get back on their feet and into the fight.

Father, we thank you for always supplying us with what we need. We thank you that when we were young in faith you fed us milk that was easy to eat so that we could grow and learn to eat solid food. Help us to continue to grow in our faith and to know you with every part of our being. Help us to see you everywhere we go and to be able to differentiate between the goodness that you have provided and the false goodness that the enemy has created to try to deceive us. Lord, we are lost without you and need your protection always. Surround us with others who will stand beside us and provide cover and help to get back on our feet when we fall. You are faithful Lord and we trust you. Thank you for your Son and for providing a way for us to know you fully. In Jesus’ name. Amen
